Widowed at 62 and estranged from his daughters, Mr Misadi lives alone in a sheltered home with no one to lean on. Struggling with kidney failure and confined to a wheelchair meant full-time work was no longer possible. But without CPF, savings or other long-term support, every day felt uncertain. A kind friend offered him part-time work as a packer, giving him just enough to live day to day. On a strict diet due to his illness, meal times become a bitter reminder of what was taken away from him.
His life collapsed further when he was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital due to severe health complications. He later stayed at Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital for five long months for rehabilitation. During this period, his wheelchair broke down and he was forced to leave his shelther due to a bedbug infestation. He suddenly found himself without mobility and without a home.
Thanks to donations to our Patient Welfare Fund, we were able to provide Mr Misadi with a motorised wheelchair and a commode chair, restoring his sense of independence and dignity. His hefty hospital bills were settled and placement in another sheltered home was secured. Surrounded by a team of nurses, therapists and staff who supported and encouraged him, Mr Misadi found hope again.
“I thought I had no one left in this world. But the kindness I received here showed me I wasn’t forgotten.”
Today, Mr Misadi is able to transfer himself from bed to wheelchair and care for himself with some help. Challenges remain but the support he received made Mr Misadi realise he is no longer alone.
Everyday, patients like Mr Misadi remind us of the less abled and disadvantaged among us. Your kindness, in the form of a donation can go a long way to helping them get care and live a life of hope and dignity. Your gift will be the light in their moments of darkness.
