FAQs
Choice Of Ward Accommodation
Can I choose my class of ward?
Choice of ward accommodation is limited to the allocated wards at different levels of subsidy
(See Types of Wards page). Patients who do not want to be means tested will have 0% subsidy and a free
choice of ward accommodation.
However, patients are advised to choose an appropriate class which they can afford to pay. Non-residents,
industrial accident cases and those admitted for non-basic health services (e.g. cosmetic surgery) can only
choose Single or 4-bed type of room. Also, private patients of visiting consultants can only be admitted to Single
or 4-bed type of room in the wards.
Admission for respite care is restricted to the paying classes.
Patients under respite care will not be admitted in to 5-8 bed room types.
How much will my hospital stay cost?
The average estimated hospital bill size can be viewed at our Ward Charges page. Your actual bill may differ from
the estimate depending on your medical condition and treatment.
What rates will I pay for follow-up at Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOCs) of restructured hospitals
after discharge from AMK-THKH?
For follow-up treatment at SOCs of restructured hospitals, patients in Single and 4-bed type will be charged at
private rates and 5-8 bedded patients at subsidised rates.
Deposit
Is a deposit required for admission to AMK-THKH?
A deposit is normally collected at the time of your admission to cover your estimated hospital bill. The amount
varies, depending on the type of cases and the class of ward chosen. You can ask the staff-in-charge of your
admission for the quantum. The deposit may be settled by cash, cheque, credit card or NETS.
How much deposit is required in the various class of wards?
Generally, patients admitted to 5-8 bedded wards with sufficient Medisave may need to place a nominal deposit
of $100 to meet miscellaneous charges not covered by Medisave. If Medisave does not cover the full hospital
charges, further deposit may be needed.
For respite care, Medisave deduction is not allowed and a deposit equivalent to two weeks' stay will be required.
For those who opt for Single or 4-bedded wards, a cash deposit is required because Medisave cannot cover
the full bill.
What happens if I do not have the money to pay the deposit?
Patients seeking admission to 5-8 bedded wards and who are unable to pay the deposits or hospital charges can
see our Medical Social Worker for assistance from Medifund. Patients seeking admission to Single or 4-bedded
wards and who are unable to pay the deposit should reconsider their choice of ward.
Medishield
What is Medishield?
Medishield is a low-cost medical insurance scheme which helps Medisave account holders and their dependants meet the cost of treatment for serious or prolonged illnesses.
Am I covered under Medishield?
Medisave account holders who are Singaporean's or Permanent Residents and have not opted out of Medishield will
be covered under this Scheme. Medishield premiums are deducted from their Medisave accounts. Medisave
account holders can also use their Medisave to pay the premiums for their dependants to join the Scheme.
You can check with the staff-in-charge of your admission if you are not sure whether you or your dependants are
covered. You may also check with the CPF Board.
What part of my hospital bill will Medishield cover?
If you are covered under Medishield at the time of your hospitalisation, you may claim part of your hospital bill
from Medishield if the illness is covered by Medishield.
For patients in the 8-bedded wards, Medishield will pay 80% of the total claimable amount above $500.
For patients in higher class wards, Medishield will pay 80% of the total claimable amount exceeding $1,000.
Medishield claims are subject to a limit of $120 per day for inpatient stay and $100 to $600 for surgical operations.
What will Medishield not cover?
Medishield
cannot be used
for treatment of serious pre-existing illnesses for which the patient has received medical
treatment during the 12 months before the start of Medishield cover. Medishield will not cover certain categories of treatment, e.g. congenital anomalies, cosmetic surgery, delivery
charges, mental illness and personality disorders. How do I go about claiming from Medishield?
You need to inform the hospital that you wish to make a claim from Medishield. The hospital will submit the Medishield claim on your behalf to the CPF Board. After processing, the Board will reimburse the hospital directly. Patients may then settle the remaining amount that is not covered by Medishield by using Medisave or cash or both. Where can I get more details about Medishield?
For further information on the Medishield Scheme, CPF members can obtain a copy of the "Medishield/Medishield
Plus" handbook at any CPF office. CPF members can also visit the CPF Website or contact the CPF Board at
Tel:1800-2271188 (Toll Free) to find out more.
